Blame not Accountability
Here’s another gem from Brene Brown. In this video Brene breaks down Blame with her usual witty and humorous storytelling. Understanding Blame is important in recovery because it is often a cover for shame. Shame is often the more difficult emotion to feel as it is about feeling less than. And, if shame is not identified it can lead to acting out. “I feel bad; porn/sex/drugs/video games make me feel good.”
So, next time you notice yourself in a Blame mindset see if you can take a step back and ask yourself if you are just avoiding shame. The best shame-killer is often journaling or talking with someone about what triggered the shame.
Until next time…Tribe on.
